Set Date and Time

Last Updated: Aug 01, 2016 10:42AM CDT
This page sets the system time only, not the timezone. All times stored in the backend are stored in UTC. Timezones are properties of user accounts and are used to offset times from the backend before they are displayed. They can be set generically or set specifically for each user on other pages.

Setting System Time and Date Manually

  1. Ensure that the "Your Timezone" field is correct. Since the timezone is a user setting and not a system setting, it can be set under the Default User Settings page or on the User Settings page. If the timezone shown is not your local timezone, visit one of these pages and change it before continuing.
  2. Select "Set Time Manually" as your Time Determination Method.
  3. Fill in the "Date and Time" field.

Synchronizing System Time and Date through NTP

  1. Ensure that the "Your Timezone" field is correct. Since the timezone is a user setting and not a system setting, it can be set under the Default User Settings page or on the User Settings page. If the timezone shown is not your local timezone, visit one of these pages and change it before continuing.
  2. Select "Synchronize with NTP Server" as your Time Determination Method.
  3. From "PreSelected NTP Servers" choose any selection you prefer. Selecting the region that most closely matches your own will lead to the minimal amount of lag between the NTP servers and your Orca.
  4. In the "NTP Servers" list, there will be a few servers listed by default. You can add an NTP server if one is available on your local network. The order of the listed servers does not matter as every sync uses all of the listed options to form a consensus on what time it is.
